I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I really enjoyed watching my oldest daughter play basketball at a tournament in Langley. The Highroad Grade 8 girls played so well.

This week we are continuing to learn about division and working on number sense. In Language Arts we are working on descriptive writing. Today we were learning about Martín Luther King Jr. (age appropriate) in honor of MLK jr. Day.

We have finished our review of matter and have moved on to learning about atoms and molecules in Science. In Socials we are continuing our learning about First Nations and Aboriginal groups in Canada.

The students created beautiful painted snowmen in art on Friday and it has really brightened our room! If you ever want to come in a check out what your child is working on please pop by!

Missions Trip Dessert Night

A message from the missions trip team:

You are invited to the Guatemala 2023 Info Dessert Night Jan 24 at 7 pm.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in your “My HRA” space.  Even if you can’t come, you could give to the “Build a classroom in a village” project.  Money can be given through the school office or at City Life church.  Please designate for the HRA 2023 Mission project.

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful holiday. We had a great day back to school. The students worked hard and settled right back into routines.

This week in Math we will be finishing up our unit on multiplication and then on Monday we will be starting division. In Language Arts we are working on a piece of writing about our holidays. The students will be working on writing interesting details and stretching moments in writing instead of simply listing activities. They will also be learning to write an interesting closing sentence.

In Science we are reviewing properties of matter and then starting a unit on molecules and atoms. The review of matter is only a few days.

In Socials Studies we are learning about the oral traditions of the First Nations people in Canada.

We will be continuing basketball in Gym.

Bible Memory Verse

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.
