S.T.E.M. Extravaganza!!!

The last week leading up to Spring Break can be a tricky one. The students are DONE. I am going to be integrating S.T.E.M. and fairy tales in the last week to give the students as much hands on activities as possible. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The plan is to read a fairy tale each day and then they have a corresponding activity.

Monday:

The Three Little Pigs. The students will be challenged to build a house made out of toothpicks. It must be able to with stand gram stackers and wind from a fan.

Tuesday:

Little Red Riding Hood. The students will be building a zipline for Red. The students will be timing how long it takes to travel a certain distance. Then they will modify it to see if they can beat their time and distance.

Wednesday:

Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The students will be creating doors and latches. They will be testing their design and improving on the ability for it to stay closed and keep out the little Goldilocks.

Thursday:

Cinderella. the students will be creating a coach for the lovely princess. The coach must be able to travel by wind power 3 meters. They will be timing it and then improving on their design to shorten the time.

Friday:

The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The students will be challenged to build a raft for the little goats. The raft must be able to hold 10grams of mass for 10 seconds. The students will be given the opportunity to improve on their design to see how much mass their raft can hold.

Movie afternoon: Flora and Ulysses

We will also be continuing with multiplication and division this week. The students will be working on personal narratives as well.

Important information:

Wednesday March 31st will be class picture day. Students are able to wear any of the uniform pieces.
