Tomorrow students are invited to wear an orange shirt and casual bottoms.

This week we will be talking about Truth and Reconciliation (age appropriate). I will be reading the stories When I Was Eight, Not My Girl, and Phyllis’s Orange Shirt. These are age appropriate books that discuss the cultural effects of residential school. Today we will be writing healing words and our names on orange hearts that were provided by the high school.

Parent night has been rescheduled to Thursday the 22nd at 6:30.

Terry Fox day is this coming Wednesday. Students will be running 3 to 4 laps around our field. Students can bring in a Toonie for Terry donation.

This was our first full week of school and the students were champs!

In Math we have been learning about place value, and building number sense. You can help at home by talking about number, for example, challenge your child to think of ways to make the number 50. They will surprise you with their ideas!

In Language Arts, we have been reviewing how to write complete sentences and learning how to read and answer questions. This is in preparation for beginning novel studies.

In Science, we have started our unit on ecosystems. The students will be studying Biomes as well.

In Socials, we have been reviewing how to read a map. From there the students will be learning how to create their own maps.

We started with the story of Creation in Bible this week. The students have also begun a Gratitude Journal.

I am so proud of how hard the students worked this week. They will enjoy the day of on Monday!

No spelling next week due to the short week. We will use that time to sharpen our Grammar skills.

Wednesday is Terry Fox day. We will be learning about this Canadian hero. More information to come.

I have had a few question regarding how STEM and Bible are related and thought I would clarify in case others were wondering. We are starting with the story of Creation in Bible this week. We will be reading Genesis and then discussing the story. Students will be given a template to illustrate and write a description about one of the days of creation. The STEM part comes in after we have completed the illustration and descriptions. The students will be using the cereal boxes and paper towel tubes to create a theatre to display and present their illustrations. I hope this clarifies things and if anyone has any questions or concerns please let me know.

This year for bible I would like to do a range of STEM activities. This stands for SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING and MATH. It can be difficult to come up with all the materials needed so I will be asking for help. I will post on the blog when I am in need of supplies, if you have some of these items hanging around at home and are able to send them with your child it would be greatly appreciated.

First on the list are empty cereal boxes and empty paper towel rolls.

Tomorrow is is picture day for the students. Students are able to wear any of the approved uniform pieces.

Our first week was fantastic! I was so proud of how well the students settled into classroom routines. To celebrate a great first week, the students in the elementary enjoyed a popsicle treat on Friday afternoon. Well done!!

Next week we will have our first spelling test.

Our P.E. days are Monday, Thursday, and Friday. We will begin changing for P.E. on Monday.

I would also encourage you to send a water bottle with your child to school. We are in the portables so do not have access to the water fountains regularly.
