Class Economy

We have a class economy. Students get a weekly allowance, and they can earn extra money for class jobs that they apply for. They might even get money unexpectedly if they are caught doing something amazing- working hard, being kind, etc.

Students use their money for three things- paying rent for their desk, paying off fines they might have incurred (calling out, being disruptive, etc), and shopping in the class store.

Today was our first class store! Some kids did not have enough money to shop after paying their rent and fines. That’s okay! They will save their money and have another chance next month. Some kids chose to spend all of their money today, and some chose to save up for something bigger.

This is a fun way to practice responsibility and financial literacy. It is an excellent classroom management tool. It is something fun for them to look forward to every month.

If you have anything little you’d like to donate (candy, small toys, cool pens, etc), please send them in with your child and we will add them to the store for next month.

We had a great week. This week we worked on turning arrays and groups into multiplication questions. The students did very well. I loved hearing comments like “multiplication is not as hard as I thought!!”

In language Arts we worked on a Day at the Beach narrative writing. We were trying out a new planning page to encourage describing a small moment. The students are showing growth in their writing skills.

In Social Studies we were finishing up our maps of Canada and began a new unit on the impact of European contact on First Nations communities in Canada.

In Science we are continuing our study of Biomes. The students are working on researching an animal that lives in a particular biome. They will be describing what adaptations that animal has that help it to survive in that biome.

In Bible we are finishing up a unit on Prayer and then we will be working on a unit on the Old Testament.

Socials Map

I have sent a blank map home with the students. This map is the exact one for the quiz. The grade 3’s will need to label all the provinces and the grade 4’s will need to label the provinces and capitals. If you need extra maps let me know.

Socials Studies Quiz

You may have noticed that your child has brought home a map of Canada with the provinces and capital cities. Next Tuesday we will be having a map quiz. Grade 3 students will be expected to label all the provinces on the map (there will be a key) and the Grade 4 students will be expected to label the provinces and capital cities (a key will be given). Let me know if you have any questions.

Reminders

We have started to use our bibles in class and will be using them regularly. If your child does not have a bible yet, could you please send one in.

We have parent teacher interviews on November 15th which is on a pizza day. We are shifting the orders to the 16th instead. We are unable to change the order date on Munch a Lunch so you will be ordering for the 15th but receiving the pizza on the 16th.
